MODULE XII

EMBEDDED FINANCE

About Module XII

Module XII explains embedded finance and how financial services are integrated into non-financial customer and supplier journeys. Learners explore Banking-as-a-Service, APIs, open banking, open finance, FiDA, build-versus-partner decisions and platform architecture. The module also maps compliance responsibilities across DORA, GDPR, data governance, the AI Act and anti-money-laundering requirements in Europe.

What You Will Learn

After the end of Module I, you will be able to:

  • Knowledge 6

Define Embedded Finance and locate it within the FinTech vertical taxonomy; explain the four-actor model (End User · Brand/Platform · License Holder · BaaS/Tech Provider) and the role of APIs and Banking-as-a-Service.

  • Knowledge 6

Understand the EU regulatory foundations of Embedded Finance – Open Finance, FiDA, the Consumer Credit Directive 2 (BNPL), PSD3/PSR – and their application to customer- and supplier-facing flows.

  • Skill 6

Apply embedded-finance solutions to customer-side workflows: embedded payments, BNPL, point-of-sale lending, embedded insurance, embedded wealth.

  • Skill 6

Apply embedded-finance solutions to supplier-side workflows: supply chain finance, ERP-embedded financing, trade credit insurance, international trade instruments.

  • Responsibility & Autonomy 6

Design an embedded-finance strategy for an SME, balancing build-vs-partner decisions, regulatory compliance (FiDA, PSD3, CCD2, AMLR, DORA, AI Act), data governance and risk.

CROSS-MODULE COORDINATION

Module XII is the synthesis vertical: it shows how instruments developed elsewhere are delivered INSIDE customer and supplier workflows. It is self-contained but deeply coordinated:

  • Module II – primary reference for the FinTech ecosystem; identifies Embedded Finance as one of the seven verticals (LT 2) and develops the technology foundations – APIs, OAuth, microservices (Lesson 1.2).
  • Module III – primary reference for the EU regulatory framework: PSD2/PSD3 payments (LT 3), GDPR (LT 4), AML/AMLR (LT 5), MiCA (LT 6), DORA and the AI Act (LT 7).
  • Module IV – AI / Data Science; referenced for embedded credit-scoring AI and the AI Act high-risk obligations (LT 9).
  • Module V – Blockchain & Crypto; trade-finance blockchain use cases and smart contracts (LT 4); MiCA-licensed CASPs for embedded crypto (LT 8).
  • Module VI – Cybersecurity; the operational controls for DORA-compliant, API-driven embedded architectures.
  • Module VII – PayTech; the underlying payment technology most embedded products rely on: mobile wallets (LT 4), B2B + ERP integration (LT 5), payments regulation (LT 8).
  • Module VIII – RegTech; compliance applied at scale. Module IX – Alternative Financing; the instruments embedded finance distributes: receivables finance (LT 3), revenue-based financing (LT 4), trade credit and the Late Payment Regulation (LT 6).
  • Module X – WealthTech; the wealth instruments distributed via embedded wealth. Module XI – InsurTech; the insurance products (IDD, Solvency II) distributed via embedded insurance.
